Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University (BSU)

Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University (BSU) is an important educational, scientific, and cultural hub. It has a history of 84 years. Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University, located in Batumi, Autonomous Republic of Ajara, Georgia, has had an academic tradition since 1935, first as Batumi Pedagogical Institute and then, since 1990, as the university named after the prominent Georgian author Shota Rustaveli. There are approximately 42 vocational programs, 43 Bachelor’s programs, 23 Master’s programs, 8 doctoral programs, and two single-level programs available at BSU. 

 

Faculty of Economics and Business, Faculty of Exact Science and Education, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Law and Social Sciences, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Health Care, Faculty of Technologies, Faculty of Tourism and 3 Scientific-research institutes: Niko Berzenishvili Institute (Direction of Huminites and Social Studies, Institute of Agrarian and Membrane Technologies, Phytopathology a. There are approximately 6,000 students enrolled in Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral programs, as well as vocational education programs and a one-year medical doctor program. There are approximately 600 employees at the university, including professors and researchers. The University’s academic and scientific personnel are actively engaged in the Natural Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, Law, Mathematical and Computer Sciences, Engineering, Technologies, Business, and Public Health, as well as agricultural fields.

 

Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University (BSU) is an institution of higher education recognized by the Georgian Ministry of Education and Science. The educational endeavours of BSU are incorporated into the Bologna Process. It actively participates in EACEA-funded projects such as Tempus, Erasmus Mundus, FP7, Erasmus+, Key Actin 1 -credit mobility, Jean Monnet, etc.

 

Integration in the international educational network; exchange of the experience of leading foreign universities; improvement of curricula, taking into account the needs of employers in order to prepare specialists for the labour market; and integration and relevance to higher standards in academic and scientific-research activities are our university’s top priorities.

 

The priorities of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University’s scientific-research endeavours are determined by the institution’s academic potential, traditions, and geographic location.

 

BSU is actively involved in international cooperation and multinational consortium-type projects and programs funded by small- and large-scale higher education cooperation, research funding schemes, and individual donors. The priorities of these international projects and programs range from infrastructure development, new study and joint degree program design and delivery, improvement of academic and scientific potential, and sharing of international experience with the leading universities, research organizations, and institutions in Georgia and abroad (European, U.S. and Asian partners).
